CHANDIGARH: City residents have found a new and faster way of finding their lost pooches through Facebook. The first such instance in the city came to light in January, when Pranav Saboo, a Sector 5 resident whose six-year-old dog was lost on January 10 got on to Facebook in an attempt to find his dog, Simba. He created a page on the social networking site, “Simba is missing,” and posted details and pictures of his dog.

Within a few hours, not only did he get the public’s sympathy but also found the love of his life, Simba back after someone posted on his page that the dog was spotted in Sector 39. “When I couldn’t find my dog for three days, I decided to give the social networking a shot,” recalls Pranav.
While Pranav was thrilled to get his dog back, Rupinder Sharma, a Sector 42 resident, celebrated the homecoming of K.G, her 3-month-old labrador, with her friends on the social networking site who helped her find the lab after he went missing on May 22. Rupinder posted a picture of her dog, stating that he was lost and that she would give a party to anyone who helped her find her pet. She gave details about her dog and how he ran away. After two days she got her dog back when a friend on the social networking site spotted K.G near the Sector 42 lake and told one of her friends.
Another such incident took place a few days ago when Leo, the five-month-old lab of Sakshar Sharma, a resident of Sector 19, escaped from the house as the door was left open. After looking for Leo for hours, the idea of posting information about him on Facebook struck him. He posted a picture of his dog with details and tagged all his friends on the social networking site on it requesting them to help him find his dog. He also asked them to share it further on the site. By evening he got a call from one of his buddies saying that he had spotted Leo playing with stray dogs in a nearby park. Social networking sites these days are not just a way of remembering birthdays or upcoming events but also a medium of sharing emotions, which is seeing people support and help each other in their time of need.
Siddhant Chaudhary, a resident of Panchkula, Sector 2, also feels thankful for such a medium that helped him find his lost dog, an 8-month-old golden retriever.Only recently he had added a municipal cooperation officer, not known to him in his friend list. On June 14, when he lost his dog and put details about him on the social networking site he was immediately informed by the same MC officer that his pet was in the dog pound and he could come and collect him.
